BiographyThe Canadian Singer/Songwriter Mackenzie Dutton could sing notes before she could talk. When she was just 4 years old, she sang "The Little Mermaid" on Television and Radio to raise money for charity (United Way). Also, when she was 4, she began playing the violin and still plays it now. When she was 14 years old, she joined the prestigious world famous group called "The Calgary Fiddlers." She toured North America with them, including a show with Ian Tyson, and then graduated from the group in 2007 (when she was 17). Although she studied violin and even piano through the Royal Conservatory for years, when she was an early teen, she started taking classical voice lessons to explore her voice more. Although she won competitions at the Kiwanis Music Festival for classical singing, she couldn't ignore the constant urge to belt like a star, so she moved on to contemporary music studies. She attended a workshop in Banff, Canada, taught by legendary vocal coach Seth Riggs. He told her she was definitely going places. She started writing songs when she was 17 and has continued to write catchy, relatable music and lyrics. Currently, Mackenzie is 21 years old and just graduated from the The #1 Prestigious Contemporary Music School, Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. In March 2011, a song she was featured in won Berklee's "Songs for Social Change" contest. As a winner, she performed at the school's highly anticipated Liberal Arts Symposium Concert which featured 5-time grammy award winner, Victor Wooten. The same song also got chosen for Berklee's 9/11 memorial concert. Mackenzie is very passionate about philanthropy and is always striving to be the change she wants to see in the world. She even shaved her head to raise money for cancer in 2006 with her sister. She was recently featured on "Love Conquers All," a benefit album for "Music for Japan." She also recently co-wrote a song with an extremely well-known New England hip hop artist, and the song features legendary Disco Queen Donna Summer. It was Donna's last released song before dying of Lung Cancer on May 17, 2012. The Calgarian currently lives in Los Angeles, CA after leaving her musical mark in Boston. |
